Whenever I’m asked why I started The Heart Project, I give the same answer: I believe in doing good. Like most people, I want to see a world full of happy, kind and confident human beings who also believe in spreading positive change. I know that as one person there’s only so much good I can do on my own. In helping others to address their limiting beliefs, to conquer their fears, to become the person they know deep down they’re capable of being, I’m able to help create a world full of much more goodness, joy and kindness. And it starts by healing one heart at a time.
Each one of us is put on earth to do something special, and whatever our heart project is, it has the potential to ripple a positive effect to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, there are many of us out there who understand we’re each capable of something magnificent, but we face the mental blocks that stop us from achieving that greatness. Often those of us who have a big dream, or a unique ambition don’t always fit into the mould of what society expects us to do. We might struggle to find true joy from our 9–5 roles because deep down we know we’re capable of so much more. My role as a life coach is to help you tap into that potential, help bring your true calling into being and unleash the person that’s always been there. The Heart Project is all about changing your life one step at a time, so that you can go out into the world and offer your own unique gifts.
My journey in life coaching began from facing my own limitations. Prior to starting The Heart Project, I spent five years in the client’s seat, coming to terms with my own struggles and healing myself. From these experiences, I built up my resilience. Even as a small child, I was faced with questions about my identity that left me feeling like an outsider, which I had to overcome. As I grew older, I was lucky enough to have parents that encouraged education and I gained a spot at one of France’s top universities. However, I had my own challenges and limitations. Being a woman living in a world that can deal us an unfair hand, I struggled with work and generally making my own way in life. These experiences, though difficult, have enabled me to change for the better. I understand what it feels like to struggle and not be able to break through into the life you really want. I know what it’s like to face these issues and not only overcome them, but to flourish.
Which is why I do what I do. My goal is helping my clients to see themselves and their barriers clearly, to understand that we must go to our inside world to be able to tackle our outside world. I aim to help those that have even the smallest seed of an idea for who they want to be, and I help them to get there. All of this is done with humour and kindness. I know how important it is to have a space where it’s safe to be vulnerable, feel understood and encouraged to be empowered in your new self.
I’ve always been drawn to humanitarian work, and am passionate about making a difference. After studying Political Science and International Affairs in France, I decided I wanted to work in the field on humanitarian assignments, which is how I began at MSF (Doctors Without Borders), first as a volunteer, which I did on my days off whilst working as an au pair, and then eventually within their HR department supporting staff that were out in the field. Despite this not being in my original plan, it turned out to be just the direction I needed, as I began a variety of HR work with a mixture of recruitment, almost always in not-for-profit organisations.
It was here that I really discovered my passion and skill for helping others. I realised that I had a superpower for being able to really see people for who they really were. Even if they didn’t explicitly reveal all of their traits, I was able to see their strengths and unique abilities, the roles that they’d excel in. Often I’d be coaching them alongside helping to find them the right role, encouraging a belief in themselves and an understanding of their full potential. It was through this work that I understood my true calling was helping others to blossom into the person they are deep down, someone who has the tools and confidence to go after what they really want in life. After coming to this realisation, I began my training as a life coach with the Co-Active Training Institute, one of the most established coaching training organisations in the world, and then my certification programme training and client work.
To me, The Heart Project is where my various gifts meet and where I aspire to lead by example. I express my own heart project through creativity (writing, painting, sometimes prose) and coaching is how I empower my clients to discover their own calling, heal and reframe their blockages so that they too can share their ‘heart project’ with others.
